a condition of permanent crisis defines contemporary urban life.
climate collapse, widening inequalities, chronic precarity, and democratic erosion are no longer exceptional events, but structural conditions — spatially organised, normalised, and governed through space.

cris&s was founded to investigate how space operates within this condition: not as a neutral container, but as an active system that unevenly distributes exposure, protection, access, and exclusion.

the centre approaches space as a relational and political field, where bodies, infrastructures, temporal regimes, and environmental processes intersect. space is understood as a matrix of power, materially embedding norms of productivity, autonomy, efficiency, and resilience.

intersectionality is used as a method, not a checklist. intersectional spaces are read as sites where multiple forms of vulnerability, privilege, and constraint co-exist, overlap, and conflict.

cris&s does not produce design solutions, masterplans, or universal models. Its work operates through critical research, conceptual frameworks, and situated analysis, positioning itself against extractive, performative, and depoliticised approaches to the built environment.

cris&s is authored and directed by ilaria iacconi iambrenghi,
a researcher working at the intersection of spatial theory, urban studies, and critical social inquiry.
